Sandvik opens a new centre in Martorelles

Sandvik, the Swedish steel group, which also operates in the fields of mining and construction, has shown its increased commitment to Catalonia by transferring its facilities from Caldes de Montbui to its new centre in Martorelles (Vallès Oriental).

The new production centre sees the transfer of the entire Caldes workforce (280 workers), which will join the 120 people who are already employed there at the steel stretching plant.

The new facilities have a surface area of 10,000 square metres and currently concentrate on three lines of business. On the one hand, they manufacture steel threaded products for tyre producers. A second line involves the production of machinery for the manufacture of tin cans for drinks. And thirdly, components for next-generation diesel systems, which will be manufactured solely in Martorelles and are in great demand because of reduced CO2 emissions.

The company, which expects to grow in the automobile manufacturing sector, will place a special emphasis on producing new parts for vehicle engines.
