Catalonia has secured the number one ranking among Spain's autonomous communities in terms of European students coming to Catalonia to get a bachelor's degree. The region also finishes second among all foreign students working towards a first college degree, according to a recent survey prepared by Barcelona Centre Universitari. Catalonia is also the number one option for students pursuing a Master or a Ph.D, both from the European Union or the rest of the world.

M. Àngels Cabasés, manager of Catalonia's InterUniversity Council, declared that this new study confirms the competitiveness and capacity of the Catalan university system. Ms. Cabasés also believes that once the European Space for Higher Education is in place, an initiative to be completed by 2010, Catalonia will continue to attract foreign students who will benefit of an even higher mobility to pursue their studies.
