Barcelona, Europe's new capital for cruise ships

Barcelona received over 1.4 million cruise ship passengers during 2006, an increase of 14.5% compared to the previous year, becoming Europe's leading city for the cruise ship industry. The Catalan capital, which also jumps to number ten in the worldwide ranking, expects to get this year in the area of 1.8 million passengers. Around 40% to 60% of cruise passengers who come to Barcelona have already taken a cruise in the past. A 17% of them are Spanish, 45% come from the rest of Europe, 31% are Americans or Canadians and the remaining 7% are from the rest of the world.
