Spain represented 40% of increase in Euro zone employment in 2006The European Union created nearly 3 million jobs in 2006, a 1.5% more than the previous year, according to official figures. Spain leads the pack of European countries with the biggest increase, around 774,000 jobs, or 40% of the total. The increase helped to reduce dramatically the rate of unemployment in the 25-member Europe, posting a total of 7.6% by the end of 2006.
Catalonia, with 2,1% of the European GDP and 2.2% of the population, managed to create around 16.5% of Spanish occupation, that is, 6.5% of European jobs.
