Catalonia created over 75,000 new businesses in 2006, securing the number one ranking among Spanish autonomous regions with a business growth rate of 3.2%.

According to a report from the Office of Information for Businesses, from the Catalan Department of Labor, Catalonia created 18,927 new businesses in the fourth quarter of 2006, an increase of 6.5% compared to the same period a year earlier. Barcelona leads the Catalan provinces, with a 72.4% of business projects, followed by Girona and Tarragona.
