Nissan to strengthen its position at Catalonia's Idiada Automobile Research Center

Japanese carmaker Nissan is to transform the Automobile Research Institute Idiada, at Santa Oliva, into a top-notch facility for car testing, the company announced. Nissan also plans to add new features to its Barcelona R&D center to make it a world class facility.

The Japanese carmaker is to gain full access to the new wet course being built at Santa Oliva, a track that will be operational by January 2008. The course will be 1,760 meters long and will be used to test cars and vehicles up to 16 tons under different driving conditions. Nissan is particularly interested in using the facilities to test its new line of light trucks, a business priority for the company.
