Seat to expand its Martorell plant to produce a new model

Spanish car company Seat is to increase the size of its plant in Martorell (Barcelona) with an additional line of auto parts to produce a new model. The new car, which is expected to hit the market by 2009, will have two versions, standard and compact.

Seat's decision comes in the wake of the company's announcement that it is expecting to finish the year with a positive operating profit, an announcement that should restore the confidence of parent company Volkswagen in the Spanish unit. According to Seat, such an improvement is a sign of the positive results of the restructuring program being put in place.
