Barcelona has consolidated its position as a preferred destination for business tourism in Europe, according to a report from Turisme de Barcelona. In 2006, the city hosted 1,303 international business meetings, mainly from the chemical and pharmaceutical sectors. Lately, however, the city has seen an increase in the number of visitors from the computer and technological sectors. Around half of these business conferences have gathered more than 1,000 participants.
