Venture capital grows in CataloniaVenture capital firms have finally found their place in Catalonia and Spain's economical activity. Investments have risen from 204.3 million euros in 1996 to more than 4 billion euros in 2005, or 2.5 billion euros last year, according to figures from the industry's association. As for Catalonia, in 2006 venture capital firms invested around 545 million euros, 27 times more than a decade ago. Experts also highlight the participation of public organizations supporting the venture capital activity, with examples such as Catalana d'Iniciatives, in which the Catalan government and the Barcelona City Council coexist with companies like Repsol, Planeta or Agrolimen.
