The International Convention Center of Barcelona (CCIB) increased its revenue by 44% in 2007 to 34.5 million euros, thanks to the intense activity of conferences, meetings and conventions in the Catalan capital. During the current year, the CCIB hosted 125 conferences with some 160,000 visitors. 44% of the meetings hosted by the CCIB are for corporate clients, with a 31% for associations and professional groups and a 20% for government and public institutions.

Gil Events CCIB Director Jesús Álvarez said that conventions are growing in importance, duration and spending by attendees. Barcelona is currently the fourth preferred destination among organizers of conventions in the world.
