Barcelona Port announces new investments, more business with Asia.

The Port of Barcelona has become Asia's gateway to Southern Europe, according to the latest data from the Barcelona Port Authority (APB). For the first time, China has been the primary client for the Catalan port, both in imports and exports. The Port of Barcelona has also announced more than 1,5 billion euros of public and private investment over the next three years. A part of the resources will go to the expansion of the facilities at the Prat wharf. In 2007 APB posted a net profit of 73.2 million euros.

Total traffic of goods continued to grow during the past year and ended with 51.4 million tonnes, a 7.8% increase. As for passenger traffic, this segment rose 13.44% in 2007, to 2.8 million passengers.
