German pharmaceutical Boehringer Ingelheim has announced that it will manufacture in Sant Cugat (Barcelona) Buscapina, its antispasmodic medicine, for the Chinese market. Manuel Garcia, Boehringer CEO for Spain, said that if the sales program works as planned, it will be necessary to expand the Spanish facilities as the plant is already working at full capacity.

The Sant Cugat factory is also Boehringer's only center of injectable drug products in the world, producing over 190 million doses a year. About 50% of the production goes to the Chinese market. The German multinational company, which also owns a chemical plant in Malgrat de Mar, has a total workforce of 1,671 employees in Spain.
