The Catalonia Investment Agency was the first development agency of its kind in Spain when it was created, in 1985. Since April 2004 is a specialized area of the Catalan Government's Ministry of Innovation, University and Enterprise. With headquarters in Barcelona, an office in Madrid and branches in New York and Tokyo, the Agency provides advisory services and assistance adapted to the needs of companies interested in setting up or expanding their activities in Catalonia.

Since its creation, the Catalonia Investment Agency has played a key role in its process of attracting FDI. In the last years (2004-2007) it has worked anunually on an average of 150projects and managing more than € 1,800 milionin investment, and has contributed to the establishment of 110 new investment projects, with the creation and maintenance of 9,200jobs and investments totalling € 850 milion.

Catalonia has consolidated itself as one of the most dynamic regions in Europe when it comes to attracting multinationals: there are currently 3,000 such companies in Catalonia, 600 of which are industrial firms.
