Clusters and strategic change in Catalonia

Business development is carried out from a lower to a higher level of detail, from a sectorial to an individual field, from the creation of new knowledge to the business development, going down from totality to territorial specialty and from a long-term horizon to an inmediate support to the company.

The Work Unit of the Business Development Department is the cluster. A cluster, industrial area or local productive system is the geographical concentration of interconnected companies that share strategic challenges, specialized suppliers, service companies and associated companies.

The Sectorial Politics Unit is aimed at designing and executing specific plans to reinforce the sectorial competitiveness in those fields in which Catalonia has a consolidated industrial structure, or in those in which there are specific starting provisos and a high growth prospect.

By means of delegations, the Strategic Change Management Unit and the Territorial Network develop cluster policies aimed at fostering the competitiveness of the existing clusters in Catalonia using the organisms that make up the Innovation Centres Network of CIDEM (PIC) as change agents. Individually, it facilitates the strategic and structural change of industrial companies that operate with mature business models to help them reorientating them.
