Government of Catalonia Innovation Awards

History > Quality Awards

The Government of Catalonia Quality Awards were first announced in 1989 with the aim of motivating Catalan companies to think and act with quality criteria.

Since then, the concept of quality has progresses from a requirement only applicable to products to all the activities carried out in the company.

The concept of quality as a whole, along with the high competitiveness that demands daily improvement, has led companies towards a continuous improvement.

With the aim of using the best criteria to evaluate business excellence, the CIDEM included, among others, the business excellence model of the European Foundation for Quality Mangement (EFGM). The EFQM model allows the company to carry out a self-appraisal and to find inprovement and innovation opportunities which will make increase their level of competitiveness.

Throughout 16 years, the Government of Catalonia Quality Awards have been one of the most valued activities of public acknowledgement among the coporate sector in Catalonia. Altogether, 81 companies have been awarded.

In 2004, in response to the demand of the Catalan business community, a new integration process of the Quality Awards and the Technological Innovation Awards was carried out. This process has culminated in 2006 with the new Innovation Award that gathers the prestige and experience of former awards and integrates both cultures.
